DECATUR - Betty Virginia (Starr) Nicholson, 96, passed away Monday, July 23, 2007 at Imboden Gardens Assisted Living.
A private memorial service will be held at Imboden Gardens for the family and the residents on Saturday, July 28, 1:00 P.M. Friends may call at the home of Betty's daughter, Ginny Nichols after the service from 2:30 P.M until 4:00 P.M. There will be no burial at this time as Betty donated her body for scientific research. Her ashes will be interred at a later date. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Betty was born August 16th, 1910 in Decatur, IL., the daughter of Charles A. and Stella Crosley Starr. She married C. Montgomery ("Monty") Nicholson in 1933. He preceded her in death in 1993. Betty was a graduate of Gulf Park School in Gulf Port, MS, and Millikin University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was a volunteer at Decatur Memorial Hospital and the Oglesby Mansion for several years. Most of all, she was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother-loved by all.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Nancy Stroyeck of Peoria, IL., Ginny (Doug) Nichols of Decatur, IL., Cissy (Jerry) Born of Marysville, OH., eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Imboden Gardens and the Living Center, Hospice, and the angels of Assistance in Living. A big thank-you to Dr. Totel for his special care and compassion.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Animal Shelter, Decatur Public Library or Special Olympics.
