85, of O'Fallon, formerly of Decatur, died Saturday (Aug. 30, 1997) in Four Fountains Convalescent Center in Belleville.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in St. John's Episcopal Church in Decatur with Father Edward Holt officiating. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday in the church. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur. Arrangements are by Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville. Memorials: American Heart Association.
Mr. Starr was a retired automobile dealer. He served as both parish warden and rector warden of St. John's Episcopal Church in Decatur, where he was a longstanding member. He was also a member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Belleville, Decatur Club, Country Club of Decatur, Southside Country Club and Rotary Club of Decatur. He held the golf record at Southside Country Club for many years. He was a graduate of Milliken University and received his master's degree from the University of Illinois and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity during his college years. In 1947, he received the Jaycee's ''Young Man of the Year'' award. He married Caroline Schwarm in 1932. She preceded him in death.
Surviving are his daughters, Elizabeth and husband John W. Perring of Champaign; Judy Starr Confer of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; son, Frederic B. Starr and wife Jane of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; six grandchildren, Frederic W. Starr and Lisa Marie Starr, both of Chagrin Falls; Spc. Richard ''Dick'' Perring and Julia Starr McMullen, both of Champaign; Christopher Starr Confer of Birmingham, Mich.; Scott McCauley Confer of Chicago; two great-granddaughters, Maria McMullen and Michelle Confer; and his dear friend, Mrs. V.B. Norwood of O'Fallon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline, parents, William C. and Mary Tollady Starr, and grandson, John William Perring.
