Thomas Sweetman, who lives at 118 Erie Street, was at police headquarters this morning charged with having assaulted John Murray of 195 West Fifth Street. Murray looked as if he had tacked a thrashing machine and came out second best, and Sweetman looked as if he had been through a Kansas cyclone. Each charges the other with being at fault. As near as can be learned the two men met at the corner of West Seventh and Utica streets about eight o'clock last evening. Murray claims Sweetman grabbed him about the neck and commenced hitting him in the face and that when he ..? in getting away Sweetman chased him to his home, broke down a door and hit him over the head with a club. Both had battered faces and black eyes.
The prisoner entered a plea of not guilty. Murray had his two brothers-in-law, Philip Raymond and John Hatch, to substantiate his side of the case, but Recorder Bulger desired additional evidence and adjourned the matter until Saturday, January 29."
