bullet  General Notes:

According to message boards about Salters, a good many of them from around the Skibbereen area immigrated to Wisconsin. One messager notes there is even a hamlet named Salter named after this family in Washington County, WI. (near the Illinois border) This person says "several of those original Salters and Connells became very wealthy by investments or by owning 600-750 acres, when 160 acres was a large farm."

Many messagers note that the Salters all had big families with high numbers of children that survived to adulthood who then went on to have large families of their own, and there was also intermarriage between the family branches, so it's nearly impossible to trace them all.

A different messager notes that he believes that the Salters came from Sommerset in the U.K. around the time of Cromwell. Many others at the site also seem to think the Salters were from England.

There are only 2 Salters listed in County Cork directory for 1875 ( One lived in Baltimore and one in Bandon.
