Charles Greathead was born on 3 January 1830 in Sheerness, Kent, England <pd12.htm>.2,5 He was the son of Joseph James Greathead <p74.htm> and Sarah Dunstall <p74.htm>.4 He was baptized on 13 June 1830 in Minster, Kent, England <pd12.htm>.5 In the census of 7 June 1841 in High Street, Blue Town, Sheerness, Kent, England <pd12.htm>, he was listed as the son of Joseph James Greathead <p74.htm>.5,6 He married Mary Ann Priscilla Grishow, daughter of William Grishow <p534.htm> and Louisa ... <p525.htm>, on 18 July 1852 in Trinity Church, Marylebone, London, England <pd17.htm>, The ceremony took place after banns being read and was witnessed by John Palmer and Julia Whiscomb. Charles was working in the Post Office.7 Charles was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 April 1861 in 1 Canal Place, Canal Bank, Peckham, Surrey, England <pd22.htm>, Charles was a gardener.8 He emigrated in 1866 arriving in Australia to join fathers business. Charles was a tailor.2,1 He married Jane Nelson <p162.htm>, daughter of Ebenezah Tonkin <p165.htm> and Mary Ann Labourer <p165.htm>, on 4 October 1867 in Fitzroy, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia <pd2.htm>, 2nd husband.2,3,9 He died on 17 November 1877 in Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia <pd2.htm>, aged 47 after being in Australia for eleven years. Charles who was residing in North Sandbridge was admitted to hospital on 15 November after suffering for the previous thirteen months from incipient mania. He had lived at home and had been cared for by his wife. He took a fit on this day from which he did not recover. A Coroner's inquest was held where he was declared well nourished and showing no signs of neglect. The details of his body functions were described in the inquest report.2,10,3,9,1,11 He was buried on 20 November 1877 in New Cemetery, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia <pd2.htm>.2
