bullet  General Notes:

The earlier census says John was born in Berlin, but he couldn't have been. The 1900 census says he was born in Maryland.

According to Earl & Marilynn Mette, this guy died during WWII, because Earl's mother wrote her son of John's death when he was serving in the south Pacific.

Note there was a John Henry Mette who was the father of Anna Catharina Mette whose baptism is recorded on the family search web site. The baptism was in 1778, with the family residing in Westerkappein, Westfalen, Preussen; birthdate of 11-8-1778.

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

Residence, 1 Jun 1870, Baltimore, , MD. 24 Living here in the 1st District of Baltimore was Henry, his wife "Benteena," six year old Anna, and one year old John. Living nearby (on the next page of the census) is August Mette and his family.

Alt. Birth: Maryland or Chicago. 13,34,150 Father's place of birth on son George's birth cert is Chicago. On son John's birth cert he's listed as having been born in Maryland. On the 1880, 1900, and 1910 census, he's listed as having been born in Berlin, Germany. Wrong! It seems evident that he didn't know where he had been born.
