Col. Thomas Barbour b. 1735, Knox Co., Ky., about 1-l/4 miles east of Barboursville Village, and 1-l/4 miles south of the turnpike, d.1825 Barboursville, Ky., m. Mary Pendleton Thomas of Orange Co., Va., a sister of Catherine Thomas, who married his brother Ambrose Barbour, d. 1825 Barboursville, Ky.
Thomas was a member of House of Burgesses from Orange Co., and signed the non-importation Act of 1769 between this Country and Great Britain, and after the formation of the union, was a member of the Legislature. Thomas was the father of the famous Governor James Barbour and his brother Judge Philip Pendleton Barbour.
Rhode Island, Vital Extracts, 1636-1899 says, "Barbour Col. Thomas, aged 90 years, at Barbourville, Va, father of the present Secretary of War, May 14, 1825
Mary, mother of the Secretary of War, at Barbourville, Va., in 76th year. The secretary has lost in about a year his father, mother, and two sisters, July 31, 1826"
